November 18th

As a guild, we participated in the " Make it Indie" annual show and sale.

It was held, as usual, at the Lions' Community Centre in Cobourg.

While we didn't make as many sales as we had hoped, those of us "womanning" our 2 tables had a fun time.

Our new banners were an attractive addition to our displays.

The guild was a presence at this show and we attracted a number of prospective new members.

Autumn 2017

AUTUMN 2017

We met a number of times during the autumn.

September found us with a booth at the Port Hope Fair. We were inside the Recreation Centre this year - in the gymnasium - instead of in the big Fair building. 

It was certainly warmer and brighter in the gym, but we missed the Fair ambiance that was part of being in the big building.

Our display was titled " Double, Double - eh!" 

in keeping with the Fair theme of "Canada - eh!"

Then in October, we met for a FAD (Fibre Arts Day) at the beginning of the month and decided to meet again on the 24th for a Nature Dye Day.

We had a wonderful time playing with dyebaths of madder, jewelweed, carrot tops, purple cabbage and day lily blooms.

Not all dyebaths were a great success, but we learned a lot from that.

Now in November, we are looking forward to participating in "Make it Indie" on the 18th, at the Cobourg Lions' Community Centre.

Catching up on Activities

We've been busy, but haven't been recording all we've done here on the blog.

In March, we worked on Tri-axial weaving with ribbons. 

Some of us loved it, others were happy that they had tried it, but ..........

Lis completed hers and it looked great !

April was a busy month. Some of us took a rod trip to the Peterborough Guild's Fibre Day, then we  had  The Gathering in Port Hope.

May's meeting was a FAD (Fibre Arts Day), where we each did our "thing" and divided up some weaving yarn that was kindly donated to us by a former guild member.

At the end of the month, some of us again took a Road Trip and went to the first ever Prince Edward County Fibre Fest in Picton. What a successful event - so many great vendors.

After tiring ourselves out wandering around the booths, we had a good lunch at a local cafe in Picton.

The came our June meeting . End of the official season pot-luck and all.

First we discussed future plans, like the Port Hope Fair and our ideas for a Canada 150 display.

Then came show & tell. We showed our "Green things". It was a guild project. Astrid had given each of is a skein of very bright green Noro yarn and challenged us to create something that included this yarn.

Astrid herself had embellished a woven purse with the yarn needlefelted onto it.

Anita had woven a bright placemat.

Lis had adorned a sweater with wonderful bobbles and meandering lines.

Mara had incorporated the yarn into Mother / Daughter hats.

Wonderful things !

Then we got to Dyeing. Using old Kool-Aid packets, we mixed up flavours, and stirred some up just as they were. Some of us painted rovings and yarn and some of us dipped in an immersion bath.

We had so much fun and got such good results that we are all eager to do more dyeing.

Since unsweetened Kool-Aid is no longer available in Canada, our next dye adventures will be with food colouring and nature dyes.

All that made us hungry and we then proceeded to devour the wonderful pot-luck lunch.

New news

Posting again after a period of inactivity on the poster's part - not the guild's.

This is a new blog. Cannot access the old one any more.

We are still meeting and road-tripping and having fun activities.

Then for our February meeting, Lis led us in a workshop creating 

"Fabric fusion paintings"

We are looking forward to March, when we'll try "Triaxial Weaving" at our regular meeting and then will head off to Peterborough on the 18th to attend the Peterborough guild's annual show and sale , visit Joanne's health food store and have a great lunch out.
